Kirk Athletic Center Dedicated November 15 On Saturday, November 15, Hampden-Sydney College dedicated the Kirk Athletic Center. The Kirk Center comprises the completely renovated Gammon Gymnasium and two new wings. A Semester at St Andrews University During the fall of my junior year, I decided that I wanted to branch out and to throw myself into a new experience that would challenge me. After speaking to Dr. Robert Blackman of the College's History Department and Mrs. Mary Cooper of the International Studies Department, I knew a trip to Scotland was just the experience I was looking for. The new gallery, part of the expansion and renovation of Gammon Gymnasium, was made possible by a gift of Dr. Willette L. LeHew '57 of Norfolk, VA, and his family. 15 Students Visit Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands The trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands revealed the actual real world to 15 college men. It opened our eyes to nature unlike anything any of us had ever before witnessed or experienced. I am certain that none of us will ever forget the times we had together, both enjoyable and sometimes difficult. Each night the group met to discuss our observations and to relate them to Evolutionary Ecology, the course title. Study Abroad in Australia On July 6, 2007, I joined other nervous American students for the beginning of a year-long, study-abroad experience to Queensland, Australia. I never thought I would leave the state of Virginia, let alone the country, but this was my opportunity, and I took it. After spending 21 hours on a plane and being jetlagged for two days, I was able to engulf myself in the Australian lifestyle.
